Makija (The Maquis) was my master's thesis from 2019. Much like my other student films, I'm not happy with the result, but making it was educational. Due to constrains of budget and time I had to cut a significant chunk of the story I'd written and I couldn't afford to do re-takes, so all the animation is first take and a lot of it is wonky and weird. I could go on and on about the things I don't like about this film, but let me instead show you some of the things that I do like - some concept art, backgrounds and such.
The film was inspired by a dream that I had once, stories told to me by grandparents and some childhood memories. I'd like to take lessons learned in making this film as a starting point for further developing this setting, possibly in comic book format. |
